The Google pixel 3 and 3 XL are official, just as we’ve
seen in the leaks, both phones are real and look exactly the same as the leaked
press images. The pixel 3 and 3 XL are essentially the same with almost the
same specs and power chipset except for the displays and the battery sizes.
Design and Display
Like previous pixel models,
both phones have similar designs and build quality with notable differences in
the display and battery. The pixel 3 XL has a 6.3-inch OLED display with 1,440
x 2,960p resolution at 532ppi. The XL model has an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 which
houses the front dual camera and one of the biggest notch we’ve seen on a
Smartphone.
The pixel 3 which is the
smaller brother to the 3 XL offers a 5.5-inch OLED display with a screen
resolution of 1,080 x 2,160p and an aspect ratio of 18:9 which gives you about
10% more surface area when compared to last year’s pixel 2.
Both phones have gorilla
glass 5 on the front and back, supports wireless charging and have a better
water resistant rating- IP68. The screens on both models are
impressively sharp, supports HDR, always on Display and different colour modes. The fingerprint reader is rear
mounted and easy to reach.
Camera
The rear camera on the pixel 3 and 3 XL didn’t get any
change in mega pixels but instead it was improved by Google with new features
and software capabilities. Both models maintained the single 12.2MP sensor with
f/1.8 on the back of the phone. The camera on the pixel has been improved with
great exciting features and capabilities like Top Shot- which recommends the best photo from a series of photos
taken at that moment, Night Sight-
night sight will combine AI and standard photography to take improved low light
photos without the need of a flash (will be enabled via a software update
coming soon). HDR+ is available and Google lens will be running at all times to
enable it display information faster without requiring you to manually launch
the Lens. Others include Photobooth, Super Res Zoom.
The selfie camera on the pixel 3 and 3 XL now features
a dual camera setup, both having an 8MP sensor, a standard 75° bright camera
with an aperture of f/1.8 and autofocus and a wide angle 97° camera with f/2.2.
Both selfie cameras on the pixel 3 and 3 XL features digital image
stabilization.
Performance
Both pixel models are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon
845 chipset and 4GB of RAM with an onboard storage option of 64GB or 128GB
(non-expandable). The CPU suffered a downclock to 2.5GHz for the big cores and
1.6GHz for the small cores, a difference of 0.2GHz compared to other Snapdragon
845 implementations.
Good battery life is expected
from these flagship devices. The pixel 3 gets a bump up to 2,915mAh from
2,700mAh in the pixel 2, while the 3 XL is down to 3,430mAh from 3,520mAh in
the pixel 2 XL.
Google introduced the pixel stand which serves as a
fast wireless charger and allows the pixel 3 works as Google Home, photo frame
and sunrise alarm. Google promises 7 hours usage with just 15minutes of
charging.
The pixel 3 and 3 XL don’t
have headphone jacks, Google has included a pair of headphones which supports
USB type C in the retail box. Google will also include a redesigned USB-C to
3.5mm adapter and both pixel models have front-firing speakers.
Both phone models will be available on the 19th of
October in the US and 2nd of November for European countries. The color
options include Just Black, Clearly white and the new option- Not Pink.
Prices will start at $799 for the pixel 3 and $899 for
the pixel 3 XL in the US.
