Apple is known for changing the Smartphone game each
year, and this time they did just that with their new flagship device: Iphone XS, XS Max and XR. The three new
Iphone models were introduced today by Apple’s marketing guru - Phil Schiller.
While the XS and XS Max are the two main attractions in this line up with
superior build quality and design, the XR happens to be the cheaper model amongst
the bunch.
The Iphone XS and XS Max have similar designs and
internals with different screen sizes. The XS features the same 5.8 OLED
display as found in last year’s Iphone X while the Iphone XS Max is a bigger
version of the XS with a 6.5 OLED display and is seen as an upgrade from
previous plus models but with the same design as the XS. According to Apple,
the OLED display on the Iphone XS is HDR10 and Dolby vision ready with the best
color accuracy, true blacks and remarkable brightness and contrast in the
industry. Both phones are IP68 certified compared to the IP67 water and dust
resistance on last year’s Iphone models. The glass on the XS is sealed with
surgical- grade stainless steel band that helps create more water resistance
enclosure up to 2 meters for 30minutes.
Both phones are powered by Apple’s new A12 Bionic
chipset and same software capabilities. According to apple, this is the first
7nm chipset to hit the market. Apple’s A12 chipset is packed with a 6 core
design, 4 core GPU and a new 8 core neural engine which is 15% faster and 40%
more power efficient than the previous A11 chipset.
In the camera department, Apple maintained the rear
12MP dual camera setup and 7MP selfie shooter (TrueDepth front Camera) on both devices but with massive improvements.
It features an f/1.8 wide angle lens, f/2.4 telephoto lens, dual OIS and 4k
video up to 60fps. The main wide angle lens is rocking a new sensor with larger
pixels – 1.4µm (significant upgrade from
1.22µm) which will improve picture quality in low light conditions. Apple added
a new feature called Smart HDR which
brings more highlight and shadow details to photos. Others include Bokeh and Depth control – which lets u
adjust the depth field after taking a photo, Enhanced Portrait Mode Selfies and 4k video and wider stereo playback.
Although apples new flagship looks and feels
expensive but it is priced way too high compared to other high-end devices in
the market.
