Apple’s
iOS 12 was announced at its annual WWDC event. The new update will be available
this fall to all devices which currently have iOS 11. Meaning the iPhone 5s and
any ipad released since 2013 and later will be receiving the update.
The
major improvement on IOS12 is focused on performance. The new iOS 12
will be much faster than the last IOS versions with 40% faster app launch, 70%
faster camera, 50% faster keyboard launch, and huge optimizations generally
across other IOS devices that will support the new OS update.
Apple
also introduces a new AR Kit 2 and a brand-new file format for
3D graphics - USDZ. All native iOS apps will support reading USDZ files. The AR Kit on IOS12 improves shared experiences, it allows multiple
people share the same virtual content in an environment. Creating content,
playing games, or just sharing your creations - it should be very easy to share
those experiences with friends. LEGO, among other companies, are on board to create
apps that share the same AR environments.
The Photos
app on IOS12 is improved with Search Suggestions. You can
search by activities, events, locations, vacations, items. Apparently, you can
now search by almost anything - even broad terms like museum, office, bar.
The Photos app works
smarter, it automatically generates albums, suggestions for effects, and even
sharing suggestions - such as sharing your lunch photos with friends and family
you've been together with and then it will suggest sharing their photos on
their phones with you and the rest.
Siri has been optimized to work much faster to get
things done with the ability for any app to work with it. According to Apple,
Siri intelligence can suggest an action at just the right time — whether it’s
to order a coffee in the morning or start an afternoon workout. Users can
customize Shortcuts by creating a simple voice command to kick off the task or
download the new Shortcuts app to create a series of actions from different
apps that can be carried out with a simple tap or customized voice command.
It’s easy for developers to take advantage of this new capability using
Shortcut APIs.
